November 8, 2008 An email from Reunion Honcho John Tokarcik:
To All,
We have set a date for the 30th Nassau Reunion. We will plan on having the reunion July 24th, 25th, & 26th of 2009. This is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
The format is as follows:
- Friday the 24th ---- Arrive at Norfolk and mingle with shipmates at hotel/motel. I am looking at the Holiday Inn Executive Center which is centrally located, (I-64 / I-264, 5655 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach) and can give us a group rate of $149 per night, (up to 4 people per room).
A banquet room or guest room can be pricey so I will probable rent an additional room to use as a central gathering point for all shipmates. You can visit in this room all night or bounce from room to room visiting shipmates and friends. I will need to know who is interested in this Hotel for the group rate.
- Saturday the 25th ---- Ships visit ~ 12:00 till whenever. We are still working this issue. The ship is very interested in accommodating the reunion but there will be a change of command between now and next summer. We will have to work with the new command and verify that we can visit on this date. As of now, the Nassau is scheduled to be in port on this weekend. I would like to thank Don Jones for all the work that he has done working with the existing command on this matter.
Saturday evening ---- We are working on a Picnic / get together at the Fleet Rec Park off Hampton Road. Mike Coogan is looking into renting pavilions for our picnic / cookout. You will have to bring your own food / drinks. You could use this time to make plans for Sunday and visit. A formal get together with a meal would be very pricey and very difficult to manage so I feel that this works better for all.
Please make calls and pass this information on to any friends, shipmates that may not be on my email list. This reunion is not just for plankowners but any shipmate interested in seeing old shipmates and friends.
Any questions, comments, ideas, please email me or call 765-455-8569.
Be Safe, John Tokarcik, Tomahawk
